SALICA INDUSTRIA ALIMENTARIA was set up in 1990 following the merger of two Bermeo-based canning companies with a long family tradition: Campos and Astorquiza. The aim was to create a new, more modern and more competitive production plant. SALICA belongs to the Basque tuna fishing group Albacore, which owns the main tuna fishing fleet in Europe: 15 large ships and 5 fish freezing vessels, which capture more than 100,000 tonnes a year in the three world fishing areas: the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and the Pacific.

In 1999, SALICA ALIMENTOS CONGELADOS was set up, a sister company located in Galicia and engaged exclusively in the production of frozen tuna. In 2004, a new 6000 m2 production plant was inaugurated as a result of the firm belief in the potential of this new company.

With SALICA INDUSTRIA ALIMETARIA AND SALICA ALIMENTOS CONGELADOS we already have long experience as a manufacturer of canned goods and frozen products in the Spanish food sector and at an international level, both in the wholesale distribution segment, in retail distribution and as a catering distributor.

Grupo Albacora is engaged in a process of production internationalisation which has culminated in the setting up of SALICA ECUADOR, a logistics, fishing, industrial and tuna boats base which will allow the company to improve its tuna production and marketing cycle. In short, it will have a positive effect on the competitiveness of the group.

Grupo Albacora has a staff of approximately 2800 workers distributed in a number of trading companies whose basic activity centres upon the capture, transport, storage, distribution, marketing and canning of tuna species.
